Allie took her first trek to Yaxhachen in the summer of 2013 alongside Mandi, where she was confounded by the presence of happiness alongside harsh living conditions. She began to explore these ideas through photography and video, using image to cultivate a global awareness of the Ko'ox Boon experience. Her work has been featured in galleries, exhibits, & various print media throughout Yucatán, Mississippi & Paris, France.
Amanda began her travels to Yucatán working as an archaeologist alongside men from Yaxhachen. After work, they invited her to visit their families, where she observed the effects of the endless cycle of poverty first hand, while also exploring the hidden beauty of Maya culture. In 2014, she conceptualized Ko'ox Boon as a way to uplift this culture from within. In 2015, she was named Millsaps College's Most Outstanding Young Alumna and in 2016 she was awarded a seed grant from The Pollination Project.
Boon Heads BreathE Creativity. Do you?
Team members have spared over 100 hours of their time to the efforts of Ko'ox Boon, requiring that they each develop their own projects, determine goals for completion & carry out the mission. These people believe that they can make real & sustainable change in the world by crossing social borders & giving the most valuable thing that a person can offer. Time.
We have a real knack for fun.
The Ko'ox Boon team is dedicated to finding creative ways to engage with Culture, Heritage & Art. We are visual artists, anthropologists & entrepreneurs. We are creatives who have embarked on a dangerously complicated and rewarding group project.
